Warning for AOL / AIM users
« on: March 29, 2004, 01:07:43 PM »

Hi,  I think this is probably a scam to get AOL username / password combinations.

I received a PM today that wanted me to view a picture, it went like this:

 You have received a picture!
The unviewed picture is from: [ marianmor9610 ]
View It!
When you follow the view it link, it takes you to this url shown below which although looks like an AOL page, it clearly isn't.  Don't enter your user info into that page, or your AOL / AIM security will be compromised.

oh, and while we are talking about AIM, they have been advertising free screensavers recently, I downloaded the waterfall one, and the aquarium one, and both install parasiteware on your computer. Sad

An excerpt from http://www.doxdesk.com :

What are parasites? ‘Parasite’ is a shorthand term for “unsolicited commercial software” — that is, a program that gets installed on your computer which you never asked for, and which does something you probably don’t want it to, for someone else’s profit.

I keep getting messages on AIM saying that I am logged on from 2 different locations. The first time it happened I changed my password. That didn't make any difference. About once or twice a week I get that message.  huh  I have never given my login information on anything like you posted above.
