NEW YORK VISITOR

Hello, I have never used a notice board before ! and it is possible I am in the wrong place and even the wrong site !
I live in Nottingham, England and the reason I have posted this message is myself and my Wife are coming to N.Y. in about four weeks time for a few days.
It would be nice if anybody could give us information or help on any subject regarding this trip e.g.
getting round,
eating out (cheap)!
what we must see,
security,
etc.etc......
We lookforward to any reply and seeing this great City. Thank you.

We aren't actually in the city, Rochester is about a 6 hour drive away.  But I have a couple of buddies in the city that I will try and get to help you out. Watch this space

by the way, 6 Hours drive away That's about how long it would take me to go the whole length of England !! it makes us realise that we are on a tiny Island with 60 million people.

Yeah, it kinda adds a touch of reality... NYC has 15 million if memory serves    You can lay the uk on it's back inside of New York state.... how bizarre, huh?  

I'm from Exeter originally, and I once took a trip to Nottingham to help a buddy pick up his kit car... it was cold and wet

btw, when you start the color/font/size tags, you need to close them.... I guess you can use the "close all tags" links, although I've never actually tried it

Just had a look at the map (getting close to our holiday now!) and I see we will be passing through Rochester on the 'Maple Leaf' to N.Y. from Niagara Falls, anybody been on it ? the brochure says, magnificent scenery of Ontario and upstate N.Y. it also says 10 hours hope its comfortable!
(Sorry about setting the font last time, I got used to it when creating my web site).

The Maple Leaf huh?  Not sure if that's a train perhaps?  Doesn't sound like a bus line, but I might be wrong I guess....

Anyhoo, if you getting to spend time sightseeing at Niagra Falls, be sure to visit on the Canada side, the views are much better over there! We did it in February one year and it was incredible, the amount of ice was just astounding.  

Then a couple of years later, we went back in the summer with my parents, it was a truly amazing experience, my Grandfather had been there many years before and she was really thrilled to hve had the opportunity to visit the city that he had also been to, so many years before.

We also took her to Buffalo, she had a bunch of vintage postcards from there that he had brought back to the UK, and now many years later, here I am, his grandson, living a stonesthrow away from there!  It sure make it feel like a small world!!

Don't worry about the tags, it's no biggie, I was just trying to tidy up, I deleted them from your first post, and closed them on your second

Sorry I did not get strait back to you but I have had a very busy time in the last two weeks. I have become a Grandad and moved my son aprox. 150 miles to live in Nottingham again. On top of that we are 'coming your way' on Thursday this week !
Yes the 'Maple Leafe' is the local railway stopping at Rochester from Niagra, we are on a organized trip so we won't be able to get off !
2 days in Tronto
1 day in Niagra
3 days in N.Y.
2 days traverling !
Sounds quite full don't it ! Is that weather warming up for us ?

By the way I moved my son from Chipenham back to Nottingham, It is a small world 'ain't it' (not that far from Exeter).
Don't know what it's like for you in N.Y. State but 10 miles of traffic queue on the M5 Motorway in England is almost the 'norm.' now and it don't help when you have got to get their and back,  load a very large van and come back in one day ! to many cars on a very small Island !
Any way thank you for your reply again and maybe we will see just a small bit of Rochester,
